Last July, while driving up to visit my grandparents, Bud and Dee, I looked over at your dad and said...I feel different. A few hours later, I was out of breath when trying to walk up a hill at great aunt Keo's home...then my appetite seemed off...I knew...I knew that we were in for something life changing. While in the tiny town of Mobridge, South Dakota we found out that we would be blessed with you in March! Excitement, nerves and an even more powerful emotion...shear terror filled us!
After a few weeks and suffering through the beginnings of what would only become worse of morning sickness, we got the confirmation that we would be able to meet you on approximately March 6th! (Only 10 days from now!).
I wish I would have started this blog from day one...adding to it each week about your journey that you and I have been on...but better late than never :)
So, in a snapshot of the last 10 months you will find updates on my "fluffiness" as your dad and I call it, as well as your massive growing wardrobe, the creation of your bedroom and of course your adorable ultrasounds! (these are what keep me going, when I'm uncomfortable and just want to meet you!)
This was our announcement! We didn't know if you were going to be a boy or girl, but we couldn't go wrong with the Husker onesie that your Grandma Kit and Papa John picked out! (It may not be obvious, but I am trying to hold back getting sick here...wasn't a good day!)
Books are such an important part of our lives and the love for reading will hopefully be instilled in you before you are even born! Your dad reads to you each night! Here are a few of the very first books added to your already HUGE library! Your dad picked each of these out!
At this point we still weren't sure if you were going to be a boy or a girl! But your dad and I had such a fun time looking at old pictures of us to get an idea of how cute you may be! I'm on the left and your handsome father is on the right!
This is one of the first "belly pics" that your dad took of me! I was so happy to finally see a little bump! We were on our way to a friend's wedding reception that night and were very proud to show you off!
This was such an amazing day for us! We found out you were a girl! We decided that night, you would be named Delilah Mae. Delilah is your great grandmother's name (my mom's mom) and Mae is your great, great grandmother's name on your dad's dad's side! Look at your cute little belly and long legs!
Now that we knew you were a girl...let the painting begin! Your dad did such a fabulous job! He painted your room when I was coaching in Hastings for State Softball!
A few more updates! You were growing fast! A quote from my OB..."Well...we have a BIG baby!" Big means healthy, so your dad and I were happy about that! You just really packed the pounds on me :)
3D ultrasounds may be the coolest/creepiest thing we have ever seen! These are from your 32 week ultrasound! It was so fun to see you sucking your thumb and made us want to pinch those chubby cheeks! From these pictures, we think you may have my nose and your dad's pouty lips!
Your room is pretty much finished! Let's take a TOUR!
The crib is a gift from Grandma Kit and Papa John. We loved the white and the Gentle Giraffe will hopefully be one of your best buddies! There are some lovies on the night stand as well as some empty photo frames that we hope to fill with your cute little face!
Grandma Marian gave us this amazing glider which has saved me throughout this pregnancy! It's so comfy! You can also spot your big brother, Puzzo, taking a snooze on the chair! He and Sherbert I think are just as excited as us to meet you!
The curtains I made. They were my first real attempt at sewing on my Singer sewing machine that I received for my 28th birthday...which was over a year ago! The wooden rocking horse is our newest addition to the room! Papa John bid on it at an auction and was bound and determined to take it away from the sweet little lady that he outbid by $3! Ha! We can't wait to see you go to town on it!
Your dad's paint job on the book shelf and the dresser turned out so well! You can already see that you have a library of books, too many blankets to count and many stuffed animals to keep you company!
This adorable duck is a gift from Grandma Marian! He is soooo soft and I'm sure will make a great cuddle buddy for you when you are older! The rocking chair that the duck is sitting on is VERY special. Your great grandma Delilah and Great Grandpa Bud gave us this awhile back. It is over 100 years old and special to our family! It belonged to Great Grandpa Bud's aunt when she was a little girl. She passed away at a young age. Your dad fixed one of the arms on it so it's as good as new! The guitar is a gift from your dad to me...I still can only play a few lines of a "Smoke on the Water"...not very impressive. Maybe one day you'll take it up and be more successful than me!
Check out this closet! Seriously....you are already so spoiled!
The "D" on the door was hand painted by one of my best friends from college, Erin! She lives in California and we will hopefully visit her often ;)
The turquoise mirror I found at "Junk Stock" with your godmother, Raquel. She is BEYOND excited to meet you! I will do a separate post about her and Josh. You are going to love both of them.
These are a few of the very special things that are on your top shelf of your bookcase. There is a picture of Great Grandma Dee with her mom, Great Great Grandma "Sweetie Pie", a framed picture of two baby girls (this was Great grandma's too!), two baby rings from Great Grandma that she was handed down from her Aunt Dorothy---there is a good story behind one of them! It was so sweet and exciting that she passed these down to you! One day you will do the same! And finally two stuffed animals. The little puppy was your dad's when he was little. It's ear is about ready to fall off, but he loves it so much and when we were putting your room together he went looking for it and added it to your shelf. The white bear with wings was Great Grandma Anita's. She passed away a few year back, but this way you will have something of hers to remind you that she is watching over you!
Well...it is almost 10pm on a Monday night....which is far past my bedtime. I will resume again when I have another rush of energy (hopefully before you join us!) If not, I will have to post about the day you arrive!
We are so blessed, Lilah and we know as scared as we are, you will be the best thing that has ever happened to us!
Love,
Mom and Dad
